Turning the Clock Back On Your Teeth
When a permanent tooth is lost, it cannot grow again.
The result of such a loss can be devastating, especially when you lose several (or all of your) teeth. However, lucky for you, losing your teeth is not the end of the road.
At Periodontal Associates, we offer several dental restorative solutions that are aimed at replacing your missing teeth.
Among these solutions, the All-on-4 treatment concept is proving to be very popular and effective in restoring your oral functionality and appearance.
What is the All-on-4 Treatment Concept?
The All-on-4 treatment concept is a type of dental implant treatment, which uses prosthetics to replace your missing teeth.
It involves the placement of four dental implants in the jawbone, which are then used to support a denture ridge.
The ridge is screwed onto these implants, making it a permanent placement. Therefore, the treatment (while being a dental implant procedure) is an alternative to traditional denture treatment.
The Treatment Process
The All-on-4 treatment process is offered after all or several adjacents missing teeth on the upper, lower, or both jawbones have been lost or extracted.
The treatment starts with the planning, where the jawbone and gum tissue structure are examined to ensure they can support the implants.
If the bone and gum tissue are not healthy, restorative dental treatments are offered to restore them to their full functionality.
The actual procedure (placing of the implants) is carried out in a single visit. It starts with sedation (options vary depending on your preferences) to relax you and numb you from the pain.
The dental implants are then surgically implanted by creating incisions on the implant sites, drilling holes, and placing a metal post.
A total of four implants are placed in the jawbone (or eight if you are having bone upper and lower teeth replaced).
The implants are placed on the arch of the jawbone: 2 at the front, and two at the corner (one at each corner). The gum tissue around the surgical sites is then stitched to close up the wound.
After the procedure, you are given a temporary set of dentures (screwed onto the implants). The dentures allow you to enjoy some oral functionality while restoring your facial appearance, as your jawbone is healing.
Once it has properly healed (which takes a few weeks) you are given permanent, custom-created dentures, which restore your full oral functionality and appearance.
Is the All-on-4 Treatment Right for You?
The All-on-4 treatment is ideal if you have lost multiple teeth either due to extensive tooth decay, gum disease, bone loss, dental trauma, or other reasons.
However, the procedure is only ideal if you have lost all of your teeth on each or both of the jaws, or several adjacent teeth at the front part (for example, losing all of your anterior teeth).
For the treatment to be effective, your bone and gums must also be healthy and sufficient to support the placed implants.
However, restorative treatments such as bone and gum tissue grafting or ridge augmentation are available if you have damaged bone and gums.
Why Should You Choose the All-on-4® Treatment Concept?
The All-on-4 treatment is ideal for many reasons:
• | It restores your full oral functionality. |
• | It gives you a perfect facial appearance. |
• | It reduces the need for placing too many implants. |
• | It helps to prevent bone and gum tissue damage. |
• | Unlike traditional dentures, the bridge used in the treatment is permanent, Which means no more adhesives, problems when chewing, discomfort and pain, or falling off the dentures. |
